|This web site hosts the reports we
submitted to the Secretaries of State for Education and
Employment, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in July
Our Committee was appointed with bipartisan support on 10 May 1996 to make recommendations on how the purposes, shape, structure, size and funding of higher education, including support for students, should develop to meet the needs of the United Kingdom over the next 20 years. We were asked to recognise that higher education embraces teaching, learning, scholarship and research.
The Summary Report provides an overview of our thinking and identifies, with commentary, our key recommendations.
The report of the National Committee and our Scottish Committee profile our full analysis, findings and recommendations. Appendices 1 to 5 detail the work we have undertaken to inform our discussions. Reports 1 to 14 present the work we asked others to undertake for us. The contents of those reports are the responsibility of their authors. We do not necessarily endorse every word in them, but we hope you will find it helpful to have access to some of the material which informed our conclusions.
As there are over 1700 pages of text in the paper version, I hope that you will find this web site a useful alternative way of navigating your way through our work.
