 Introduction
1. Data on
academic staff were compiled by Professor Gillian Raab of
Napier University from information provided by the Higher
Education Statistics Agency (HESA) and the Scottish
Office for Education and Industry Department.5 The data
reflect staffing levels in higher education institutions
and all staff in further education colleges of whom only
a proportion is engaged in higher education provision.
2. In reviewing these
data the Scottish Committee became aware that no data
were available on academic-related staff and support
staff. We believe that this shortage of data should be
addressed in future.
