Estate Services is committed to contributing to this vision by providing and managing the physical environment in which staff and students work, live and learn. Our commitment is to provide first class facilities and contribute to ensuring an exceptional student experience, through fit for purpose, high quality buildings and support services.
There are several sections that make up Estate Services, which fall under Technical Services and Facilities and Business Support:
As well as providing technical support to the Facilities Directorate it operates the Carbon Management Plan on behalf of the University. The team implement energy saving initiatives directly as well as providing advice to the Facilities Directorate and the wider University on best practice.
This section is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the building structures on campus and associated engineering services. They undertake planned maintenance and repairs and also maintain the gardens and sports grounds.
This section is responsible for the management of major strategic initiatives. It manages projects that cost over £3 million or those of a specialist nature.
The in-house design team provides on-campus architectural, engineering and interior design expertise for those departments undertaking smaller schemes of refurbishment, extension or alteration.
This section is responsible for the Sustainable Development programme and recycling and waste management strategy. They also work with departments with regards to carbon management and environmental coordination.
This team ensures that works undertaken, commissioned or managed by Estate Services for our customers are carried out in a safe and healthy environment for all employees, students, members of the public and contractors.
They provide 24 hour monitoring of campus security, patrolling of the campus. The team investigate crime, provide crime prevention advice and respond to alarms and emergencies. This section also manages the car parks and car parking administration.
This service is responsible for keeping the campus clean, recycling and waste management, sweeping of the roads and pathways and pest control.
These teams are responsible for the opening and closing of some buildings on campus; the sorting and delivery/collection of mail; checking rooms are fit for use; and support of some key events.
This section is responsible for central teaching space rooms; providing information on the use of equipment; responding to users who are having difficulty in using equipment; supporting key events and video conferencing.
This service supports the academic, student and administrative communities in the university with print, design and audio visual solutions.
The teams within Business Support are responsible for Estates' IT; Estates HR and Administration functions; management of Estates' Helpdesk Support and Reception.
The Estate Services' Helpdesk provides a central point of contact for all departments to request maintenance repairs and progress on jobs.
We also have two other sections:
This team is responsible for university space management, to ensure that it is fit for purpose and meets the university’s developing needs. This team supports the improvement of space utilisation, providing accurate and up to date space information.
This section is responsible for the administration of Capital Projects, Minor Works and Major Schemes; Internal charging for work carried out by Estate Services; energy invoicing and monitoring on behalf of the university.
