WRAP Halving Waste to Landfill Logo

Construction Commitment

In 2009,with a large capital development programme underway, the University of Leeds signed up to the WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) Construction Commitment.

This has committed us to halving all of our construction waste by 2012.

Construction Waste Regulations

The Site Waste Management Plans Regulations, 2008, state that any new construction project with a value over £300k has a legal requirement to produce a Site Waste Management Plan. We have extended this requirement to include all construction works completed on campus, regardless of cost.

This has taken considerable additional commitment from the University, but through careful planning and agreement with our many contractors, we are now able to accurately report on all capital developments, refurbishments and even smaller maintenance projects, giving us a much clearer picture of our environmental impact.

We aim to divert 90% of our construction waste from landfill by 2012.
