We estimate that more than eight tonnes of carbon dioxide are emitted every year from staff and students travelling to the University. Due to limited parking space, congestion and pollution in Leeds the University discourages driving and offers alternatives to single occupancy car journeys.
About 400 University staff members have already signed up to www.carshareleeds.com. Registration to this online car sharing scheme is absolutely free of charge. You can offer or search for a lift for any number of days a week. The system can also be used for one-off journeys, e.g. travelling to a conference. To increase the chance of a match the system allows you to search the University database, the Leeds wide scheme and the national Liftshare database. Car sharing has great benefits:
