We estimate that more than eight tonnes of carbon dioxide are emitted every year from staff and students travelling to the University. Due to limited parking space, congestion and pollution in Leeds the University discourages driving and offers alternatives to single occupancy car journeys.

Car Sharing

About 400 University staff members have already signed up to www.carshareleeds.com. Registration to this online car sharing scheme is absolutely free of charge. You can offer or search for a lift for any number of days a week. The system can also be used for one-off journeys, e.g. travelling to a conference. To increase the chance of a match the system allows you to search the University database, the Leeds wide scheme and the national Liftshare database. Car sharing has great benefits:

Sharing cost
You can half the costs of petrol and parking and reduce the wear and tear of your car. Joint applications for a shared campus parking permit are considered by adding points from both applications.
Beat the queue
The more people share a car the less cars are on Leeds roads helping to reduce congestion, pollution and accidents. Car sharers are also able to use 2+ lanes (High Occupancy Lane) along the A647 corridor, Stanningley Road.
Make friends
Once registered you could meet your neighbours and colleagues.

Fewer cars on the roads mean less pollution, land-use and noise. This will help to preserve the environment and improve healthy living.

City Car Club pay-as-you-go cars

A Car Club allows people to share a car/van parked close to their home or places of work. Bookings can be made on-line for as little as 30 minutes, up to several days. The pay as you go service gives you all the convenience of car ownership without the costs or hassle. City Car Club operates 30+ cars and vans across Leeds (and 550 more in 13 other cites).
