Cyclists on campus

Transport

The University is committed to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions caused by both commuting and business travel. We encourage both staff and students to use public transport, bicycles and their feet as often as possible. Students are not allowed to park on campus and staff only with a valid permit.

Travel Plan

The University's Travel Plan encourages staff and students to walk and cycle more. This is not only good for the environment but helps to maintain or increase fitness levels. The University also supports public transport and offers discount on seasonal tickets. Since its introduction in 2003

  • single occupancy car jouneys have been reduced by 24% for staff and 14% for students
  • walking among staff has increased by 40%, and
  • 24% more staff use public transport as commuting mode
    (travel surveys 2004, 2005 and 2007).

Travel Guide

Every year the University produces a guide which contains useful travel information for students, staff and visitors. A map shows halls of residence, the train station and the University main campus. Key bus stops including the free city bus route give easy orientation.

Travel surveys

Regular travel surveys monitor the modal choice of staff and students. All participants are able to leave feedback which together with the results are given to relevant organisations like Leeds City Council and public transport operators.
