Terry Waite was held captive for almost 5 years; his inspirational story took him through extreme adversity. Hear him and the research showing our brain’s ability to develop resilience under stress.

The University is pleased to invite you to Brain Power, an evening event that demonstrates how our most complex organ copes under stress and can help motivate and take us to new levels of mental and physical resilience.

Held captive in Lebanon, Terry Waite had no contact with the outside world and no access to books and papers for almost five years. His inspirational story is one of endurance in extreme adversity.

Join him, Richard Morris, professor of Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh and Professor Trevor Jones to hear how research sheds light on the brain’s ability to motivate us beyond what we may have thought were our own limits – and hear how our understanding continues to advance.

The event is hosted by Dr Mary Baker, Past President of the European Brain Council and Leeds alumna, and chaired by Trevor Jones, former Head of R&D at the Wellcome Foundation. Professor Lisa Roberts, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research & Innovation, will also give a brief outline of some of the pioneering research taking place at the University.
