A twenty-first century learning experienceWe have one of the major academic research libraries in the United Kingdom
As a student at the University of Leeds you'll have access to one of the largest libraries in the UK, with more than 4,000 study places if you need somewhere quiet to work.
On the main campus our three libraries, the Brotherton Library, Edward Boyle Library and the newly refurbished Health Sciences Library, provide a variety of different working environments. They all house IT clusters too, alongside access to the University wireless network if you want to work on your laptop.
Use the library online
As well as the 2,860,000 books, you've also got a host of electronic resources at your fingertips. Sometimes you will need to work away from the library, so our collection of e-books, journals and databases are available online.
The library website gives you easy access to all these resources, and you can reserve and renew your books through the website too.
Special collections
You can find all your course texts in the library, but it also holds several collections of international significance including a first folio of Shakespeare's plays and the original manuscript of Evelyn Waugh's Vile Bodies. We even own locks of Beethoven's and Mozart's hair. Take a look at some of the highlights of our special collections
How the library can support you
Every subject has a faculty librarian and they'll be happy to help you find what you're after, whether that's special collections or recommended texts. In addition to providing specialist support for your subject areas the library runs popular workshops on topics including:
- Finding information for your essay
- Finding and using digital images
- Intelligent web searching
