A Cambodian staging of Hélène Cixous’s Terrible but Unfinished History of Norodom Sihanouk, King of Cambodia, inaugurated by FAHACS staff members Ashley Thompson and Eric Prenowitz, is opening in France this year.
Ashley Thompson’s long-term research project, developed with colleague Eric Prenowitz, to stage a Khmer language production of Hélène Cixous’ epic ‘Cambodia’ play, The Terrible but Unfinished Story of Norodom Sihanouk, King of Cambodia, has come to fruition. The play, a collaborative production by Phare Ponleu Selpak (Battambang, Cambodia) and the Théâtre du Soleil (Paris), will open at the Théâtre des Célestins, Lyon, on October 28, 2011, travel throughout France, and close at the Théâtre du Soleil in Paris, with a series of showings from November 23 – December 4. Ashley will participate in post-performance discussions at the Théâtre des Célestins, Lyon, on October 28, and at the Théâtre du Soleil, Paris, on November 27.
