Fine Art Visiting Speaker

Georgina Starr

Wednesday, January 26th, 2005.

2.00-4.00pm, Roger Stevens Lecture Theatre 20

Georgina Starr was born in Leeds in 1968. She attended the Leeds College of Art & Design before completing her studies at the Slade School of Art.

In recent years her standing in the international art scene has been affirmed with exhibitions at Tate Britain and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Her newest work, Big V, is a four-screen video installation exploring the themes of female sexuality in relation to Catholicism made specially for Leeds City Art Gallery. It takes the form of a series of incidents narrated by characters loosely based on interviews with people Starr grew up with, and on her own thoughts of life growing up in Leeds.

Big V is her first work to enter the permanent collections of fine art at the gallery in her native city.

She is a 2005 Visiting Fellow in the School of Fine Art and will be running a number of seminars and tutorials with Students at all levels of the course.
