Location and Travel

Location

Leeds is located about 200 miles north of London in the heart of West Yorkshire. The City enjoys excellent communications with the rest of the UK. The M1 motorway provides a direct road link with the Midlands, London and the South; the A1 provides access to the North East and the Eastern Counties; and the M62 links the City with Hull, Manchester, Liverpool and the North West. Leeds-Bradford airport is about eight miles north of the city. The Bus and rail stations are connected by frequent services to all parts of the country.

Travel

Arrival by bus or train

Taxis are available on ranks at both bus and train stations to take you to the University or to your accomodation.

Rail Travel

Intercity trains operate frequent through services to London, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff and Newcastle; other services provide regular connections with the North West, the East Midlands, East Anglia and the South West. There is an hourly service from London Kings Cross, a journey which takes less than two hours. On-line Railway Timetable

Road Travel

Leeds is connected to the national motorway network via the M62 and the M606.

The M1, Britain's first and primary motorway, was built to connect Leeds to London. The M62 motorway connects the east and west ports of Hull and Liverpool and forms a "T" with the M1 at the centre of the UK. Leeds is located at the junction of this "T".

Please note that all-day parking is rare and expensive within the city centre so that you should contact your hotel or other accommodation to arrange for parking.

Bus Travel

There are frequent long distance bus services to Leeds from all major cities in the UK.

Air Travel

Leeds Bradford International Airport is situated off the A658 about 8 miles north west of Leeds with flights daily from major European destinations, and a wide network of onward connections worldwide. For further information about travelling to Leeds by air please see our Air Travel Page.
