Elections to the Senate

In the recent election by all members of the faculties to membership of the Senate, the following have been elected unopposed for a period of three years with effect from 1 August 2012:

Leeds lecturer Dr George Rodosthenous has received the Best Direction Award from the Theatrical Organisation of Cyprus.

A postgraduate student at Leeds Dental Institute has been named UK Best Young Dentist at the 2011 Dentistry Awards.

Two academics from the Faculty of Biological Sciences have made it into the top five shortlist for the Society of Biology's 'Biological Science Higher Education Teacher of the Year' award.

Professor Daryl O'Connor of the Institute of Psychological Sciences, has received the Award of Academician from the Academy of Social Sciences in recognition of his contribution to social science.

Alumni and staff members past and present have been recognised in the New Year's Honours list.

Jenny Lyon has been appointed as the ninth Faculty Education Service Manager (FESM), with an expected starting date of 1 January 2012. Read the full list of FESMs appointed.

Dr Claire Jones, who joins the Centre for History and Philosophy of Science next year, has been appointed Director of the University of Leeds Museum of the History of Science, Technology and Medicine.

Dr Nick West of the Faculty of Medicine and Health fought off tough competition from all nine faculties at the University, to be named the University's 2011 Postgraduate Researcher of the Year.
