To participate in University of Leeds ceremonies you will be required to wear the academic dress of the University. Below are some frequently asked questions regarding gown hire:
What will my Academic Dress look like?
Those being awarded diplomas, first degrees and masters degrees at the University’s degree ceremonies wear academic dress: They do not, through long established University custom and practice, wear the cap (mortarboard) prescribed as part of full academic dress. Caps are available for photographic purposes from the University Robe Makers, who are in attendance at all ceremonies. Academic dress for bachelors and masters degrees consists of a black gown with the appropriate hood for your degree. Higher degrees often wear coloured gowns and hoods and in some instances, a velvet hat. For a description of what your gown will look like click here
What do I wear under my Academic Dress?
It is advised that men wear a dark suit or jacket and trousers; women a dark skirt or trouser suit, dress or skirt. It is recommended that ladies wear a buttoned blouse to secure their hood.
How can I order Academic Dress?
You will have the option of ordering your Academic Dress online and this will save you money . This will be available for students graduating in July 2012 in May by clicking on www.gownhire.co.uk .
Gowns are available on the day of the ceremony if you have not been able to pre order your gown.
If you do not have access to a computer, please telephone the call centre on 01223 861854 . The call centre operates between the hours of 9am - 5pm , Monday to Friday (calls may be recorded for staff training).

How can I pay for Academic Dress?
You can pay by credit or debit card (all major cards accepted) and receive your confirmation and order number all in one simple transaction . You will need to print your order confirmation and take it with you on the day so that Ede and Ravenscroft can process your order quickly.
Before you start your order make sure you know your head circumference (if applicable), chest and height measurements and have your credit/debit card details available.

What is the cost of Academic Dress?
Orders made by the deadline online receive a discount of £5. Orders received on the day of the ceremony are subject to an extra charge. Please see below the cost of academic dress ordered on the day:
