Question 1

Why might the puzzlement of writers such as Maud Lancaster with scientific ideas about the identity of electricity be important?

Question 2

If scientists couldn't agree on what electricity is, what alternative strategies might people such as Maud Lancaster have used to deal with it?

Question 3

If lay writers such as Maud Lancaster were openly critical of what scientists told them about electricity, what might this mean for how we explain the fact that electricity has become "domesticated"?
