What is the Redeployment Service?
The redeployment service has been developed to provide a centralised resource for use by recruiting departments to source staff who may be suitable for vacancies. By redeploying an existing member of staff, the University retains valuable skills and knowledge, limits the need for posts to be advertised externally and reduces associated advertising costs. Redeployees continue to enjoy the benefit of working at the University of Leeds and have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills further.
It is not a Service for people wanting a change of career.
What is the Redeployment Register?
This is a database which contains an outline of the details of all redeployees. It holds information such as skills and qualifications and is accessible for recruiting managers to view to see if there’s anyone available to fill their vacancy.
How does redeployment work?
You apply for vacancies online using the Redeployment Portal - a website specifically for redeployees - which holds details of all current vacancies before they are released for external advertising and you upload a supporting statement tailored to the requirements of the vacancy’s person specification.
After you complete an online job application, via the Portal, your uploaded skills profile and supporting statement is sent via the system to the recruiting departments. The skills form gives the recruiting department information about your skills, knowledge and experience and your supporting statement provides information directly related to the role. These are what are used to determine whether you match the requirements of the role.
Am I eligible to join the
register?
There are a number of reasons why you could be eligible for redeployment, including:
• the role you are employed to do not continuing due to cessation of external funding;
• the role no longer being required due to organisational change;
• medical reasons, supported by Occupational Health;
• Some other substantial reason such as an irretrievable breakdown in a working relationship.
To be eligible to use the Redeployment Service, you should have a minimum of 12 months service by the end of your current contract end date. Requests to join the Register will be considered on a case-by-case basis on the understanding that the University reserves the right to withhold access.
Staff whose roles are affected by organisational change should contact their Human Resources Manager to discuss eligibility as the minimum contract period above may be waived.
If you think you are eligible for redeployment you should contact your Human Resources Manager to discuss this further, or you can contact the Redeployment Service directly.
Who do I contact?
For further information about the Redeployment Service, please contact the Redeployment Service or your Human Resources Manager.
I'm eligible to use the Redeployment
Service - what do I do now?
You should contact your Human Resources Manager who will meet with you to discuss your eligibility for redeployment and the documentation needed to register you.
You complete a skills profile form, which is held on a database, and you can provide an up-to-date CV.
When you have completed your skills profile, and CV, your Human Resources Manager will do a final check of the information being submitted and will then forward it on to the Redeployment Service for you.
The Redeployment Service will email you confirmation of receipt of your skills profile, and CV if it was included, and you will be sent a user name and password to access the Redeployment Portal website. You can then log-in to the bulletin to view and apply for the current vacancies.
Your Human Resources Manager and the Redeployment Service will work with you to provide a coordinated approach to try to secure suitable alternative employment for you by:
• Liaising regularly with each other to determine any suitable vacancies;
• Advising Deans/Heads of Schools and Services of any redeployees who may be suitable for their vacant posts;
• Maintaining regular contact with you, providing any necessary support and guidance and identifying any training or development needs;
• Holding regular formal review meetings to assess your current position.
What if I need to update my
skills?
The University is committed to providing relevant training and support to staff using the Redeployment Service. Redeployees can access support such as careers advice, CV writing and interview skills. The Redeployment Service can also arrange additional training with ISS, SDDU and the Logik Centre.
University Research Staff can get advice in a number of areas including occupations, vacancies and skills development from the Careers Centre see: http://careerweb.leeds.ac.uk/academics/crs/index.asp
Can I be considered for a job
on a different grade?
You should search the Portal for roles at your current grade as it is not possible to be redeployed to a post of a higher grade.
If you see a role that is of a lower grade that you think is suitable for you, you can apply but you will be accepting the role on the lower salary if successfully appointed
I have an open ended contract. What happens if a suitable job is fixed term?
If you have an open ended contract, you can move to a fixed term role through redeployment. You will not lose your status if the job you are placed in is fixed term.
If that fixed term post expires without being renewed, you can re-join the Redeployment Register again six months from the end of the contract.
Is the redeployment
register confidential?
We try to avoid using any information, such as names, that will identify you directly. Each redeployee has a unique code to maintain confidentiality.
Only your Human Resources Manager and the Redeployment Service knows for certain who the codes refer to, and the reason for you being on the register.
I am in a role that is externally funded and we don't know if there will be any further funding for my current post. If I join the register, what will happen?
If your role is at risk, and you meet the eligibility criteria, you can join the Redeployment Service 6 months before the end of your funding. If you are successful in finding suitable alternative employment via the Redeployment Service during this period you will be expected to take up the new role. If you have not have been successful in finding a new role, and additional funding does become available you can continue in your current role and we will remove your details from the Register.
The job seems suitable,
but what if I'm not sure?
It is possible to accept a role on a trial basis, which is usually for up to three months. Towards the end of the trial period, there will be a full review and if the post is suitable you will remain in that role.
