When can it help?
The counselling service deals with a wide range of personal difficulties ranging from anxiety states and depression through to life and relationship issues both at home and at work. It's worth calling in to see if they can help. The range of approaches is very wide and is drawn from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), counselling, person-centred, and life coaching approaches in trying to address problems.
Accessing Staff Counselling Service
Staff can access the service by:
Contacting Dr John Adams or Sally Rose by telephone on 0113 343 3694. Leave your contact details on the answering machine and your call will be returned by either John or Sally as soon as possible to arrange an appointment.
With the exception of holiday periods, you would normally be contacted within a few days of making your first enquiry and an appointment would be available within a week to ten days.
Key features
FREE – the Counselling Service is completely free to staff.
Confidential – your personal details will not be disclosed, passed to your line manager or be put on your personal file unless you give us permission to do so. Our counsellor will act with complete integrity. The client list is also confidential, so clients remain anonymous unless they choose to disclose that they are consulting with the counselling service.
Impartial – your concerns do not have to be work related.
Our staff counsellors have 40 years continuous experience of working with HE in the UK, either lecturing or consulting, and over 45 years clinical consulting experience between them, both in private practice and working with corporate clients.
How does it work?
The service offers a problem centred approach and usually takes place in University House. If an individual wants a consultation at home you can discuss this with the counsellor when making an appointment.
Most people self refer, but are often prompted by OH, HR or line management. Sometimes if people are nervous, appointments are made on their behalf by colleagues etc. So often the original initiative comes from a colleague or from the other support networks.
Additional Support
As well as individual counselling, the service offers 'the Calm package', a range of on-line support materials aimed at helping with stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia.
