Teaching and Research
Teaching and research build on a strong interdisciplinary tradition that goes back for more than forty years, and today draws extra vigour from expertise available within the International Medieval Bibliography and International Medieval Congress.
An outstanding library and emphasis on research skills are leading strengths. At Leeds, we help you to to acquire reading knowledge of one of the languages read or spoken internationally in medieval Europe (Latin, Greek, Arabic, or Hebrew) and the palaeographical skills that enable you to work with sources in their original form. We also provide training in the bibliographical and other skills necessary to produce high-level research in medieval studies.
The Institute's programmes of study are overseen by the Director of the Institute, Prof. Graham Loud. The Institute's community of medievalists is one of the UK's broadest, made up of academic and medievalist staff, associates, students registered for programmes of study, research fellows and project staff.
Career development
Links with the Royal Armouries, Bede's World, Leeds City Museum, and Landscape Research Centre give opportunities for internships and archaeological field experience. Within the Institute, there are opportunities for paid work experience with the International Medieval Bibliography and International Medieval Congress.
