Material to be submitted with your PhD or MPhil application
All of the items listed below should be sent directly to the IMS.
(a) The University of Leeds's official Application for Research Degree Study Form
(b) Three references from the three nominated referees (please arrange for these to be sent by the referees directly to the Director of Studies of the IMS)
(c) A complete undergraduate (and, where appropriate, MA) academic record or transcript, providing grades.
(d) English language certificate if appropriate
(e) Research Degrees in the IMS Application for Admission Form
(f) One item of written work (max. 3000 words), such as an undergraduate or MA assessed essay, preferably on a medieval topic; please supply the module name and level on the work.
(g) An outline description (maximum of 2 pages) of the topic you would like to work on at PhD or MPhil level. Guidance on how to structure this outline is here: guidance document.
The IMS normally cannot consider applications until it has received the material listed above. If (b), (c) or (d) above are not submitted with the application it can take up to two months to receive this information and this can delay your application unnecessarily. It is therefore useful for you to arrange for your university (or department) to send a confidential transcript of your academic record and grades as described above.
