Taught MA programme requirements
Applicants should have, or expect to graduate with, the equivalent of a good BA Honours degree. Previous specialisation in some aspect of Medieval Studies is an advantage.
English language requirements:
Students who are not first-language
English speakers sit a short English proficiency test on arrival
at Leeds. This is to assess whether any additional English-language
learning is required. If this is the case, courses are provided
free by the university. However, IMS students have never in the
past required such supplementary tuition.
The University of Leeds has the following minimum English language requirements for taught postgraduate applicants whose first language is not English:
Pearson Academic Test: Minimum PTE Academic score of 64 with at least 60 in each of the skills.
IELTS: Overall score of at least 6.5, with no grade below 6.0.
TOEFL: Paper-based overall score of at least 580 with 4.5 on the Test of Written English (TWE).
TOEFL: Computer-based overall score of at least 240 with 4.5 on essay writing.
TOEFL: Internet-based overall score of at least 94 with minimum score of 21 in listening, 23 in reading, 23 in speaking and 24 in writing.
Duration: 12 months full-time or 24 months part-time.
Leeds Credits:
Full-time students are required to accumulate 180 credits (or study points) in one academic year; part-time
students accumulate 180 credits over their two years of study.
Classifications for taught MA students:
Final degree results are calculated by averaging results for each module, weighted for credit-value. All 180
credits are taken into account. The mark scale runs from 20 to 90, the overall pass mark for the MA is 50,
and no single module mark may be below 40.
