Taught MA yearly workload

Home | Study | Degree programmes | Taught MA | Yearly workload

The University expects that for every 10 credits a student takes, there will be 100 hours of study time. This includes class preparation, classes, assignments and examinations. So for a 30-credit module the total study time would be 300 hours. On average, our taught modules have between 1 and 3 hours of class per week. A 30-credit module is assessed by a total of 6000 words of written work, or an equivalent quantity of examination plus written work.

The overall MA workload equates more or less to 45 weeks of 40 hours per week for full-time students, and 90 weeks of 20 hours per week for part-time students.
