Institute for Medieval Studies

PhD and MPhil Entry requirements

Applicants for interdisciplinary postgraduate research in the Institute for Medieval Studies should have an MA either in Medieval Studies or in a single-discipline subject programme which has a strong medieval component. Some applicants may wish to consider completing both the MA and MPhil or PhD in Medieval Studies at Leeds, but this is not a pre-requisite for application for research study. In exceptional circumstances the IMS will consider applications from those with only a BA (at least a good IIi or equivalent), but in such cases the BA must have a strong medieval component and the candidate must have acquired relevant research skills to a suitable level.
