The University offers a wide range of scholarships for international students, from partial fee awards to full scholarships covering fees, maintenance grants and other allowances.

It is important to make enquiries and apply for sources of funding as early as you can. Search our postgraduate scholarships online, or visit the faculties page and find undergraduate scholarships in the school you are applying to.

Below are our scholarships for international undergraduate students (overseas fee rated), starting a degree in September 2018.


The International Undergraduate Science and Engineering Scholarship

How much is it worth?
£2,000 per year up to a maximum of 4 years subject to satisfactory progression.

Who is eligible?
Any overseas fee paying applicants who have been offered a place on an undergraduate degree programme.

Eligible courses
All of the science and engineering undergraduate courses in the following schools and faculties:

  • Biological Sciences
  • Computing
  • Chemistry
  • Chemical and Process Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electronic and Electrical Engineering
  • Earth and Environment (science-based courses only)
  • Food Science and Nutrition
  • Mathematics
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Physics and Astronomy
  • Psychology

No application necessary — automatic to those meeting the criteria

Terms and conditions
Applicants must be self-funding and not in receipt of other fee scholarships, new to the University of Leeds, enter onto Level 1 and classified as international for tuition fee purposes. You must not be in receipt of any other University of Leeds award.

You must achieve a yearly attainment percentage of 60%. The scholarship will be withheld in a year if you fail to achieve 60%, but will be reinstated the following year if your performance recovers to 60% or over.

Self-funding students who successfully complete the International Foundation Year (IFY) at Leeds will also be eligible for this bursary.


Biological Sciences Dean's Excellence Scholarship

How much is it worth?
£5,000 per year up to a maximum of 3 years subject to satisfactory progression. There are 6 scholarships available.

Who is eligible?
High achieving applicants who achieve A*AA at A-level (A2) or equivalent.

All undergraduate degree courses within the Faculty of Biological Sciences

Biological Sciences Head of School Excellence Scholarship

How much is it worth?
£1000 towards the cost of tuition

Who is eligible?
International applicants who meet the academic requirements of their offer and are able to demonstrate an interest for their chosen subject i.e. experience or achievements gained from education, sporting, volunteering or professional on the application form.

Eligible courses
All undergraduate degree courses within the Faculty of Biological Sciences

School of Psychology Head of School Excellence Scholarship

How much is it worth?
£4,000 a year up to a maximum of 4 years, subject to satisfactory progression. There are up to 6 scholarships available and will take the form of a tuition fee reduction.

Who is eligible?
Students achieving AAA or above A-level (or equivalent)

All School of Psychology undergraduate degree courses

Business School International Excellence Scholarship

How much is it worth?
£2,500 a year up to a maximum of 3 years, subject to satisfactory progression. Optional years such as a year in industry or study abroad year are excluded. There are up to 8 scholarships available and will take the form of a tuition fee reduction.

Who is eligible?
Overseas fee paying students who demonstrate achievement. For information on the criteria visit the Business School website. There are eight scholarships available.

£2,500 a year up to a maximum of 3 years, subject to satisfactory progression. Optional years such as a year in industry or study abroad year are excluded. The number of scholarships awarded varies from year to year and will take the form of a tuition fee reduction.

All Leeds International Foundation Year self-funding applicants who apply for an undergraduate course and are classed as international for fee purposes

Business School International Scholarship for nationals of India, Kenya, Nigeria and Vietnam

How much is it worth?
£2,500 a year up to a maximum of 3 years for nationals of India, Kenya, Nigeria and Vietnam. Optional years such as a year in industry or study abroad year are excluded. There are up to 8 scholarships available (2 per country)

Who is eligible?
All Leeds International Foundation Year self-funding applicants who apply for an undergraduate course and are classed as international for fee purposes

£2,500 tuition fee reduction in year one.

Who is eligible?
Overseas fee paying students achieving AAA or above at A-level (A2) or equivalent. This is for year one only, there is a scholarship available in years 2 and 3 subject to academic achievement.
