Results day can be stressful, so even if you're confident you'll receive the exam results you need, it's still helpful to take some time to think about your options.

Here are our tips for preparing for results day:

1. Do your research

Have a look at similar courses and consider related subjects to keep your options open. Remember courses may have different names at other universities.

Look at university websites to check entry requirements — some courses may require specific subjects at A-level and GCSE. Find our entry requirements on coursefinder and check our UK or EU clearing listings and international clearing listings.

2. Make sure you know how to contact your universities

UCAS Track is your first port of call on results day but make sure you make a list of universities and their telephone numbers so you are ready to contact them if you need to.

Our Clearing call centre will be open from 7am on 15 August on +44 (0)370 126 0606.

3. Plan what you are going to say

Remember we can only discuss offers with the applicant, so while we know that parents are keen to be involved, you need to make the calls yourself. Think about what you're going to say and be prepared to say why you are interested in that course and university, and what you have to offer.

Have a notepad and pen to hand to write down any important information.

4. Be available to call

Avoid being on holiday on results day. If you are away remember to nominate access to your results to someone who can speak on your behalf. You can do this in advance on UCAS Track.

5. Have your UCAS details ready

Have your UCAS personal ID and Track log in details ready — you'll need this on results day to see if you have been accepted to your chosen university.

Double check the contact details on your UCAS application form are correct so universities can contact you if they need to.

6. Be ready to collect your results from school or college

You need to have your exam results before you can call so make sure you collect them as soon as you can.
