“Even though it is still ongoing, the project has been very successful. My work with Raymond Holt and Pete Culmer in Mechanical Engineering has brought me into contact with other colleagues working in related areas.”
The University of Leeds has been awarded a grant of £1.25m over five years from the Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF) to support biomedical and related research which has been matched by an equal investment by the University.
A major component of the funding will support non-clinical and clinical early career researchers in order to enable them to realise their potential and position themselves for competitive external Fellowship application.
Another major component of the funding will support discipline hopping activities, which can be for internal collaboration and welcome applications for travel and subsistence costs to support short-term inter-institutional research visits to either academic or industrial laboratories to develop new research skills.
In 2014, The University of Leeds was awarded a grant of £1m over two years from the Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF). The University matched the funding from Wellcome and this new joint investment will be used innovatively to strengthen five crucial areas that directly map onto our University vision as well as the Wellcome Trust 2010-2020 strategic plan. Successful applicants used their funding to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, embed public engagement in research, support early career researchers, promote innovation and improve health outcomes.
