Writer and broadcaster Melvyn Bragg was born in Wigton, Cumbria, in 1939. He read modern history at Wadham College, Oxford, and then joined the BBC as a general trainee in 1961. Three years later, he was appointed editor of BBC2's first arts programme, First Release, and since then has become a pre-eminent figure in arts broadcasting in Britain editing, producing and presenting a wealth of pioneering, award-winning television and radio programmes across the cultural spectrum.

Professor Michael Arthur, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leeds, is internationally renowned for his contribution to education and to medical research. John Fisher is the University of Leeds' first Deputy Vice-Chancellor. He supports the Vice-Chancellor across a range of activities focusing in particular on internal affairs including strategy, academic development and faculty oversight and management. Professor Fisher chairs the Faculty Management Group, and the Academic Planning & Performance Office supports him in that role.

Her responsibilities include financial planning, reporting and analysis, financial advice and decision support, balance sheet and treasury management, financial risk management and purchasing. She graduated in History and Economics from York University in 1989. She is a chartered accountant and has an MBA.

Martin is the University's first Marketing Director. A graduate of Geography from the University of Sheffield, he joined Marks and Spencer in 1984 where he undertook a variety of store management and head office appointments in both commercial and marketing roles.

Matthew graduated in Economics from Cambridge University in 1977. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development, and has worked in the private, voluntary and health sectors. Matthew is responsible for HR at the University including strategy, policy, advice and support, employment, recruitment, promotions and staff review, staff development, staff engagement, and wellbeing and health and safety services.

As University Secretary, Roger is responsible for key areas of University life including corporate governance, audit and risk management, supporting the Council (the governing body) and the Senate (the principal academic authority), and the main committees of the University. He also looks after student administration - taking students from registration right through to graduation - academic appeals and regulation, legal issues and complaints and discipline.

Dennis joined the University in 2002 as Director of Residential and Commercial Services and was appointed as Director of Facilities Management in 2009. His responsibilities currently include management of the residential estate, catering operations, conference and event management, sport & physical activity, estate management, and campus support services. He is also responsible for sustainability of the University’s built environment.
