Student at a laptop

Excellence in ITWe provide a first-class, innovative and flexible learning and teaching environment

Email, file storage and a fast internet connection are the least you can expect from IT facilities at the University of Leeds – our first class facilities are some of the most extensive of any UK university.

Computers when and where you need them

After you register you will be able to access to all our IT services, including our two mobile apps. All of our IT facilities are centred on you – there are computer clusters across campus, so you will never have to go far from your school or department to find a PC. We have about 1,700 networked PCs on campus for you to use – including in 11 of our caf├ęs. Some of our clusters are open 24 hours a day, ensuring you can study when it suits you. You can check the availability of PCs in the clusters by downloading the UniLeeds app or via the Portal's IT & Library tab.

Secure ‘anywhere’ access to email with Office 365

From September 2014 you will be get an email account on the Office 365 service, giving you secure access to email, calendar, contacts and tasks, wherever you are. This is part of the Microsoft Office 365 suite of services and allows you to install up to five copies of Office Pro Plus at no cost. As a University of Leeds student you can also get a range of free or reduced cost software

Using your own computer

If you would rather use your own laptop, most areas have free high-speed wi-fi, and with the Desktop Anywhere service, you will always have secure access to your resources and software on or off campus.

All the main halls of residence have free, fast internet access, and we even provide free TV over the network in the halls. With 25 free channels and 19 more available on subscription you can keep up with your favourite programmes on your computer.

Help and support

The University of Leeds is consistently ranked in the top three universities for IT support in the National Student Survey. If you ever need any help our experienced helpdesk staff are here seven days a week to give you IT support by phone, email or in person. Our online IT induction course, available on the Portal, will introduce you to many of our IT facilities.
