Leeds University Union (LUU) is a democracy, giving students the power to create change. When you register at the University, you automatically become a member of LUU, entitling you to vote in elections, put forward motions, attend Union Council and vote at referenda.
The union building is located at the heart of campus and is one of the biggest student union buildings in the UK. From the student advice centre, to shops, bars and clubs, it has everything you need for life as a student.
The LUU supports around 300 activities, clubs and societies and they run a programme of taster workshops throughout term time. There's a whole range of fun, interesting and different things for you to do in your free time - everything from belly dancing to water polo.
You can also volunteer through LUU, working with older people, young people, on community or environmental projects. Find out how to get involved
In 2009, Leeds University Union was named the number one students' union in Britain at the NUS Awards, which recognises outstanding achievement and demonstration of best practice in a higher education students' union. We are also one of only three gold accredited (at level 2) students' unions, recognized under a national evaluation scheme. Most recently, the union has been recognised for its green efforts, winning gold at the National Union of Students (NUS) Green Impact Awards.
Leeds' media groups are among the best in the UK. Leeds Student TV won NaSTA Best Broadcaster 2011 and Leeds Student Radio (LSRfm) won BBC Radio 1's gold award for journalistic in 2010.
