Leeds is full of live music

And the beat goes on..The city’s live music scene attracts lots of students to the University of Leeds

Leeds is well-known for its vibrant live music scene and you don't have to walk too far to experience it.

The University's main canteen known as the Refectory is a legendary music venue.  Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix have all played here as well as more contemporary talent such as The Cribs, Mr. Scruff and the Arctic Monkeys. 

Alternatively, the O2 Academy is a major city centre music venue, which has played host to Ladyhawke, Duffy and Elbow.

Leeds also has a thriving underground network of smaller venues which showcase the best in new music.

The city has a strong tradition of promoting all kinds of music and the Leeds International Concert Season is an annual music programme featuring jazz, world music, brass, classical and chamber music. 

The city also hosts the prestigious International Pianoforte Competition and a number of major music festivals including Leeds Festival, Opera in the Park, Party in the Park and fuseleeds.

Leeds is also a hub for opera lovers being the home of Opera North, England's award-winning national opera company in the North famed for its exciting and innovative productions.
