As far as the eye can seeYorkshire has more than 100 miles of coastline to discover

Yorkshire has more than 100 miles of coastline to discover with everything from secluded beaches and fishing villages to traditional seaside resorts.

Whitby

Whitby is a fishing town with a long maritime tradition. Its skyline is dominated by the romantic ruins of a 13th century abbey.

Spend time at the beach or wander around cobbled streets taking in the many shops selling crafts, antiques and jewellery made from locally mined jet.

Captain Cook made his main voyages of discovery in ships, including Endeavour, which were built in the town. Find out more about his life and achievements at the Capitan Cook Memorial Museum

Whitby's dramatic aspects inspired Bram Stoker to write his classic novel 'Dracula' published in 1897. Visit the Dracula Experience for a tour through the book's story and its connection to Whitby.

The nearby picturesque fishing villages of Robin's Hoods Bay, famous for its past as a smuggling community, and Staithes are also well worth a visit.

Scarborough

Surfer on Scarborough beachScarborough is one of the UK's most popular seaside resorts and mixes old world charm with modern visitor attractions.

The 11th century ruins of Scarborough Castle are the main focus in the south bay. The north bay has a secluded beach and is home to the Japanese-themed Peasholm Park and Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary

Bridlington

Visit the old town for traditonal pubs, art galleries and tearooms as well as Bridlington Priory Church built on the site of an Augustinian Priory.

Flamborough, one of Bridlington's districts, is famous for its seven mile long chalk headland, and is considered a special area of conservation. Sea birds such as gannets and puffins breed on the cliffs where you'll find a bird observatory and the oldest complete lighthouse in England.
