We are one of the largest research-based institutions in the UK and in 2010/11 attracted £124m of research income. We're also one of the main centres for postgraduate teaching in the country, with over 8,000 postgraduate students from all over the UK and another 144 countries.
As a postgraduate here, you can either follow a taught programme, which includes an MA, MSc and MBA, or take a research degree such as a PhD. Whatever route you choose, you will be among internationally recognised research teams.

In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), we were ranked joint 14th in the UK in the Times Higher Education (THE) league table of research quality, which is a jump of 12 places up from 26th in the 2001 RAE. 61% of our research is classed as world-leading or internationally excellent.
In the latest University audit by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) we received the highest possible result, confirming confidence in our management of academic standards and the quality of learning available to our students. Read more
