Leeds Bursary exceptionsNot all students are eligible for the Leeds Bursary – find out if you qualify

Information for new UK undergraduate students starting a course in September 2011.

The Leeds Bursary is a grant for UK undergraduate students who are studying for a degree or Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Leeds and have a family income of £36,600 or less before tax.

Some students are not eligible for the Bursary or are eligible for a different amount of Bursary, due to the course they are studying or other circumstances.

The following exceptions apply.

You are not eligible for the Leeds Bursary if you:

  • have not been financially assessed for support by the Student Loans Company (SLC), as the University will not receive confirmation of your household income.
  • have been financially assessed for support by the SLC, but have not (or your parents have not) given consent for your household income to be communicated to us, as we will not receive confirmation of your household income
  • have applied for a tuition fee loan from the SLC, but have not provided them with a valid National Insurance Number, (or valid reason for not having a National Insurance Number), as your tuition fee loan will not be paid until then.
  • are not registered on the date that the Leeds Bursary is paid, for example, due to withdrawal from your course
  • are a school of healthcare student (eg Nursing) as your fees are paid by the NHS.
  • are an MBChB or BChD (Medical or Dental) student in your 5th year or more, as your fees are paid by the NHS

  • If you are a BA Social Work student you are eligible for a flat rate bursary of £338 if you have a residual household income of £36,600 or less
  • If you are one of the medical students who has moved from Bradford University to the Leeds MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) under the local widening participation agreement you will be eligible for a 'no detriment' bursary.
