Tuition fees for UK and EU students

No up-front fees

You won't have to pay any tuition fees up-front if you're an eligible UK or EU student, whether full-time or part-time. You'll be able to apply for a loan from the government to cover the full cost of your tuition fees.  For students with a household income under £42,600 a year, financial help may also be available from us to help cover the cost of your tuition fees.

If you're a UK or EU student planning to come to Leeds in September 2012 our fees will be:

For full-time undergraduate courses
£9,000

For part-time undergraduate courses
Fees will be a proportion of the full-time fee, calculated on the basis of the workload of the part-time course compared to an equivalent full-time course

For years spent studying abroad or on a work placement fees are substantially reduced:
£1,500 for work placements*
£2,500 for study abroad

*The cost is higher in some areas where this is a compulsory and assessed element of the course. For example, in the School of Modern Languages study and work abroad fees are both £2,500.

For foundation year courses
Fees for foundation years automatically leading on to a degree will be:

£0 (no fee) for students with a household income of up to £25,000
£4,500 for students with a household income of £25,001 to £42,600
£9,000 for students with a household income of over £42,600

We are still considering our foundation year course fees for UK students from outside England and for other EU students.  Please keep checking this page for the latest updates.

Fees for all our courses may increase each year in line with government regulations.

Living expenses

The biggest cost you'll have to meet while you are at university is likely to be the cost of your accommodation.  At Leeds, we guarantee all full-time undergraduates an offer of a place in our accommodation for their first year (subject to your application being received on time), where the price you pay includes rent, energy costs, insurance for your belongings, internet access, and membership of The Edge, our flagship gym and pool complex.

To help you plan your likely expenses, in 2011/12 the prices for University accommodation will range from:

£2,985 - £5,804 for a 42-week contract in self-catering accommodation
£3,853 - £6,311 for a 39-week contract in catered accommodation, where term-time meals are also included

The prices vary depending on the residence you live in and the type of room you have.  Read more about University accommodation.

Your other expenses will include essential costs such as food and transport, non-essential spending on going out and, in private accommodation, bills.  Leeds University Union has guidance about the typical cost of living for students in Leeds, including information on the cost of private rented accommodation, on its website.
