7th Framework Programme project:
Media & Citizenship: Transnational Television Cultures: Reshaping Political Identities in the European Union (
See page of Dr Myria Georgiou). The project Media & Citizenship studies the ways transnational media, in particular Arabic language television, reshape the political landscapes of citizenship in the European Union. It provides the first European wide empirical research on the use of Arabic language television and its effect on integration in multicultural societies.

Economic and Social Research Council project:
The Impact of EU 'Constitutionalisation' on Public Claims-Making over Europe (run as part of the EurPolCom Centre - see page of Dr Julie Firmstone)

British Academy project (Ref no: LRG-45511):
Political Communication in New Democracies. Government-Media Relationships in Transition.
The project investigates how after regime changes from autocratic to democratic rule political communication elites re-negotiate the power balance between governments and the media. Based on semi-structured interviews with journalists and politicians the project explores the role expectations of these two sets of actors, their mutual expectations and the norms that guide their relationship. The project includes eight countries from so-called third-wave democracies: Bulgaria, Poland, Brazil, Chile, Korea, Taiwan, Namibia and South Africa.
