KOREA FOUNDATION
The Korea Foundation was established to support Korean studies abroad. It is affiliated with the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and receives public and private funds. It has several core programmes for funding.
Its main interest is in funding the development of Korean studies overseas, with the provision of core funding and professorships to institutions with an established track record in Korean studies abroad.
It also seeks to nurture Korean specialists by funding research projects for public policy oriented research on Korea. Advanced research grants are available for scholars who carry out their research mostly based in their own countries for up to 12 months.
Short-term field research grants are available to support specialists involved in research that requires a stay in Korea for several months.
Other possible areas of funding are post-doctoral grants, grants for Korean research students who want to obtain their doctorate abroad and language training. There is also funding for conferences and provision for a large collection of Korean studies materials that can be donated to a university library.
The various element of this portfolio of programmes is associated with different application requirements and deadlines and therefore a close study of the website of the Korea Foundation is advised.
