The Gallery provides unique opportunities for teaching and learning within the context of real art objects.
We encourage University staff to use the temporary exhibitions and collections as first-hand learning experiences for students by working with us to develop supporting events and projects relating to exhibitions and the collections. The curatorial team aims to make original works of art from the collection available to students and their tutors for detailed study, wherever possible. Students from all parts of the University are encouraged to visit the gallery and to use its facilities.
The Education Space of the Gallery can be booked for classes, lectures and presentations related to the art collection and exhibitions. The room may be screened off from the main Gallery when required

Ceramics study group with M.A. in Art Gallery and Museums Studies students, 2008- Tours: Gallery staff have given tours of the collections and exhibitions to various interested groups; this has recently included students from the School of Design and the School of Education. An art collection quiz was developed for foreign students in the School of Education, to help them practice their English while enjoying their tour of the Gallery.
- Workshops: The Gallery collaborated with the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies to deliver an artist-led workshop to B.A. Fine Art students, resulting in a performance and a display of the students' artwork during the 12th International Contemporary Artists' Book Fair.
- Hands-on experience in the Gallery: The Gallery collaborated with academic staff to offer students practical experience for their 'Interpreting Cultures' module on the M.A. in Art Gallery and Museum Studies. Students were encouraged to put their classroom theory into practice by developing small exhibition spaces in the Gallery, using selections from the University Art Collection. Students also benefitted from being taught within the Gallery space.
