Paper Trails: Treasures on Paper
2 May - 28 July 2012
Continuing this year's celebrations of former Vice-Chancellor Sir Michael Sadler's centenary at Leeds, and his role in developing the University's collection of works on paper, this exhibition shows highlights from the University Art Collection's wide-ranging works on paper, including early English watercolours, 20th century drawings and recent prints.
The exhibition is an opportunity to celebrate 30 years of hard work behind the scenes to fully catalogue and to make sense of the paper trails related to the artworks accumulated by the University over its history. Over 2012, the Gallery will finally be bringing the results of this cataloguing project to an audience online. The physical paper trails that took so long to catalogue will soon be available 'virtually,' accessible to a worldwide audience in digital form, and this information preserved for the future.
Like our forthcoming website and searchable collections online, this exhibition invites our audience to interact. Visitors can contribute comments, drawings, or their own 3-D paper creations to our collaborative Paper Trails sculpture. Each day we'll feature a different contribution to the sculpture, so look out for yours!
