Poetry Reading
The following are a selection of images from the poetry reading at the Leeds Poetry 1950-1980 reception.

Jon Glover (left), a student at Leeds in the 1960s and long-term associate of Stand magazine, began the reading with a poem from his forthcoming collection of poems, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, to be published by Carcanet later this year. He is currently managing editor of Stand.

Judi Benson (right) read from the late work of her partner Ken Smith (1938-2003), and a poem of her own written shortly after his death. Smith was a student at Leeds in the 1960s, and also closely associated with Stand magazine.

Lorna Tracy (left) read from the work of Jon Silkin (1930-1997), a Gregory Fellow in Poetry in the late 1950s, and founding editor of Stand magazine. Lorna Tracy was married to Jon Silkin and has a long-standing connection with Stand as a co-editor.

Jeffrey Wainwright (right), a student at Leeds during the 1960s, read from 'Zafira Poems', published in the most recent issue of the University of Leeds journal Moving Worlds. His new collection, Clarity or Death, will be published by Carcanet in July 2008.

Rodney Pybus (left) also has a long association with Stand magazine, and was a co-editor for many years. He read his poem 'Bridling at Birdsong', published in the autumn 1997 issue of Stand. Although not part of the Leeds Poetry collections, his archive is also held at Leeds University Library.

The poetry reading concluded with Paul Mills (right), the last poet to hold the Gregory Fellowship in Poetry at the University of Leeds. He read a poem on climate change, commissioned by British Council for the anthology Feeling the Pressure (2008), and from work in progress.
