Cardiovascular and Neuronal Remodelling

Astrocytes taken from rat brain cortex

The Division of Cardiovascular and Neuronal Remodelling has a major interest in tissue remodelling associated with cardiovascular, neurodegenerative and other diseases, employing integrated molecular, cellular and whole organism approaches to understand and combat adverse remodelling.

Led by Professor Mark Kearney, our research aim is to provide translation solutions to adverse remodelling by determining the molecular mechanisms by which cells alter protein expression and function during disease adaptation.

The Division can be summarised as having five main expert groupings within it; the Hypoxic remodelling group, the Extracellular matrix remodelling group, the In vivo remodelling group, the Neuronal control of the cardiovascular system and remodelling group, and the Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (MR) Group (which works closely with the Division of Medical Physics).

Members of our Division have published in high-impact journals including Science, Nature, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA, FASEB Journal, and Circulation Research.
