Reproduction and Early Development
The Division of Reproduction and Early Development is a laboratory based research group which focuses on fundamental investigations of reproductive biology in animals and humans and their application to reproductive medicine in humans. They are a founding member of the Reproduction and Perinatal Health research collaboration which was established in Leeds in 2003.
Led by Professor Helen Picton, our research is broadly focussed into 3 main areas:
- Molecular and cellular biology of embryogenesis and gametogenesis in males and females;
- Reproductive toxicology;
- Conservation of fertility and aetiology of infertility in humans.
In addition, we conduct applied research and clinical trials work for the two Leeds based assisted conception units that combine to form the Reproductive Medicine Unit (RMU) within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This close link with the RMU has facilitated our research into human reproduction and early development in health and disease.
Staff in this Division also contribute to undergraduate teaching and hosts an international MSc in Clinical Embryology, and a new MSc in Lifestyle, Ageing and Reproductive Health.
