Specialist Training
The Yorkshire and the Humber Deanery is responsible for ensuring the delivery of appropriate levels of professional and vocational training and continuing education to all levels of Medical Personnel and Dental Personnel for the Region. The Deanery has a number of postgraduate Specialty Schools to manage training
The Deanery’s School of Public Health provides high quality training for people wishing to become Consultants in Public Health. The Programme provides a wide range of opportunities and experiences in the NHS and with partners from other sectors and specialties. The Training Programme is open to both qualified medical doctors and those from backgrounds other than medicine.
The Academic Unit of Public Health is very actively involved in this work through the work of Val Barker, Head of the School of Public Health for the Postgraduate Deanery, Yorkshire and the Humber. The programme has 38 places for Specialty Registrars and they are located across the region, in Primary Care Trusts, at the Strategic Health Authority, the Department of Health and in academic institutions. We have recently recruited 6 new Specialty Trainees and a number of them are now studying on The Leeds MPH.
The Specialty Registrars also support the work of the Academic Unit by teaching on the Individuals and Populations module for 2nd year undergraduate medical students and leading tutorials with 4th year medical students.
For more information on professional Public Health training at Leeds please contact the Yorkshire Deanery School of Public Health where you will find a range of information for Specialty Registrars (SpRs) training in the region and for all interested in applying to the programme.
