Health Management, Planning & Policy
The Masters in Health Management, Planning and Policy provides a multi-disciplinary, critically analytical and practice-based approach to the main challenges and issues in management, planning and policy which face the providers of health and health-related services in low-middle income countries and is designed for health professionals planners and managers.
Hospital Management
The Master of Hospital Management is designed for graduates or health professionals with some acquaintance with management roles in a hospital setting. The course is set primarily within the context of public health services, but it is also relevant for managers of NGOs, mission and private hospitals. It is expected that participants will draw on their own knowledge of hospitals in class-work and assignments, and applicants without any hospital experience will normally be expected to gain such experience before starting the course. This course has been offered by the Nuffield Centre since 1992, and is one of only two courses in the UK focusing on low-middle income countries.
International Health
The purpose of the MSc in International Health is to prepare students to work in changing environments and with diverse populations, and to respond competently to the challenges presented by permeable geographic and cultural boundaries. Students will gain competence in identifying and analysing factors that cause disparities in health status, health resources, and access to health information and health services, particularly for marginalised and vulnerable people. The degree will provide graduates with greater opportunities for careers in international health in globally-focussed organisations.
Public Health (International)
First offered here in 1984, the Master of Public Health (International) allows you to gain the public health knowledge and skills needed to develop improved health programmes and services in low-middle income countries. It is suitable for district, provincial and national health officers, and other specific health programme officers such as mother and child health, as well as those intending to teach public health.
Intercalated BSc in International Health
The Intercalated BSc in International Health is a year-long, full-time degree for UK medical students committed to international health. The degree provides you with opportunities to explore issues of global health, health care delivery and health policy. You will develop the critical and analytical skills to assess, implement, and evaluate health and health care interventions in your future medical career. The Nuffield Centre has been teaching courses in international health and development for over 30 years, and has established a large alumni network of health managers and planners holding senior positions around the world.
