Change of Headship. There have been some huge changes in 2012, primarily Professor Andrew Green's retirement in December 2011, and the introduction of a new Head of Centre, Professor Tim Ensor.
Andrew has been Head of Centre for many years, however he felt it was time to step back and spend time with his family and hobbies. He will, however, still be involved in on-going research projects so will be around from time to time.
To celebrate, we held a party for him on 20th December; please see photo below of Andrew being presented with gifts from Professor Allan House, Head of Institute.
COMDIS HSD (5 - 13th March). A research uptake and capacity building workshop will take place in Dubai during these dates. More information and photographs to follow.
Geneva Study Tour 2012 (19 - 26th March). We had a record breaking 76 students this year, with approximatley half of those taking this trip as part of their personal development plan. The weather was once again very pleasant and the annual trip up Mont Blanc went off without a hitch. This year the students were accompanied by Dr Reinhard Huss and Mr Maye Omar.

Nuffield Staff Awayday (20
April). This was held at the National Railway Museum, York. This venue had
a different
"feel" to past years, in that it was not a rural setting.
The weather was very bad that day, and the driving rain meant that
we wouldnt have been able to sit outdoors anyway. It was enjoyable,
and the food was delicious. The theme for this year was "Personal
Development". See photograph below.
