Carbon Monoxide poisoning

You can open a PDF advice leaflet containing more information about checking appliances, and the symptoms

Be aware, carbon monoxide is odourless and tasteless and causes a significant number of domestic deaths every year

It is produced by inefficient combustion of fossil fuels. All gas appliances should be checked annually as a minimum standard

The gas company will assess gas appliances free of charge for safety

Landlords are legally obliged to ensure gas appliances are tested and maintained

The symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are vague and include headaches, nausea, lethargy and clouding of consciousness

If you suspect a gas appliance is faulty

  1. Turn it off
  2. Open the windows and doors
  3. Get the appliance checked

Carbon Monoxide detectorIf you have gas appliances in your property then you may wish to consider fitting a carbon monoxide detector. They can be purchased from most Do It Yourself stores, and some high street stores such as Argos
