Out of hours medical care when the surgery is closed

Guide to Essential Services.PDFOut of hours is the term we use to refer to any time of the day or night that we are closed

When the surgery is closed telephone our normal number 0113 295 4488 and your call will automatically be transferred to West Yorkshire Urgent care Services (or you can telephone them directly on 0345 605 9999)

They will take your details and assess whether you need advice from them, to see a doctor or nurse at a local treatment centre, to receive a visit to your home by an emergency doctor, or to be admitted to hospital by ambulance

West Yorkshire Urgent Care Services (WYUCS)
This is the service that has been commissioned by NHSLeeds to provide out of hours care for patients in West Yorkshire. You can contact WYUCS by telephone on 0345 605 9999, or visit their web site: www.wyucservices.nhs.uk

Why not go straight to A&E?
A&E stands for Accident & Emergency, not Anytime & Everything! You may find the following booklet helpful, which has been written by NHS Leeds and gives advice on alternatives to A&E. View the Guide to Essential Services PDF

When should I call the out of hours service?
Out of hours is an emergency service which is intended for urgent medical conditions that require attention overnight or at other times when your GP practice is closed

Will I be able to ask a doctor to come and visit me at home?
Your out of hours GP or nurse will assess your symptoms and decide whether a home visit is needed

If a doctor can't visit me at home where will I have to travel to?
There are out of hours centres in Leeds, Sheepscar, Otley and Middleton. Alternatively, you may find it more convenient to travel to a centre in Bradford, Harrogate or Wakefield

Can NHS Choices help me with things that are not an emergency?
You can call NHS Choices at any time, day or night on 0845 46 47, for nurse advice if you are feeling unwell or for reassurance and health information on conditions such as diabetes and allergies. You might find it useful to visit the NHS Choices on-line web site: www.nhs.uk for a range of health advice for you and your family. Here you will find a self-help guide to treating common health problems at home, an encyclopedia covering hundreds of illnesses and a directory of local pharmacists

I need a repeat prescription out of hours
Your local pharmacist is qualified to give expert advice without an appointment. For a directory of local pharmacists click on-line at: www.nhs.uk or ring NHS Choices on 0845 46 47
