CONTRACEPTION AND SEXUAL HEALTH

All our contraception and sexual health information is now available from a single web page, to give you faster and easier access to this important information: Contraception and Sexual Health

Here you will also find information about Long-acting Reversible Contraception (LARCs), also known as 'fit and forget' contraception. LARCs are growing in popularity due to the fact that you do not have to think about contraception every day, or every time you have sex - as you do with condoms and the pill

PARKING PENALTIES

EnforcementWe have car parking for patients to use whilst they are attending the surgery. An enforcement company monitors the car park, and will apply penalties to anyone parking without authority

If you are consulting at the practice this is good news for you, because it means there is more likely to be a parking space available for you when you arrive for your appointment

Students who use our car park as a free place to park whilst they attend lectures, take exams, or go shopping, risk a penalty charge, or even removal of their vehicle. Full terms of the enforcement scheme are displayed on notices around the car park

SMS TEXT APPOINTMENT REMINDERS

Mobile phoneWe use a system called MJog which sends an SMS text appointment reminder to everyone with a pre-booked appointment. You will generally get the text reminder 24 hours before your appointment, although reminders for Monday are sent out on a Friday

The text will typically say "Don't forget your appointment at <time>, on <date> at Leeds Student Medical Practice. Please call 0113 295 4488 if you can't attend"

You also have the option to cancel this appointment by replying with the word cancel. Cancelling the appointment will make it available for someone else to use

We collect your mobile telephone number at registration, and will usually check it when you book long appointments - please let us know if you change your mobile number

COMMISSIONING
As you may be aware primary care (General Practice) funding is changing over the next few years, with the focus being placed on GPs (General Practitioners) and patients deciding how money is allocated and services provided across primary care, secondary care (hospitals) and community (midwives, health visitors, etc). Leeds Student Medical Practice is part of a local commissioning group called H3+. View this Adobeleaflet to find out more about H3+

BUG OF THE TERM
BugWhat nasty illness is affecting our students this term?
Alcoholism
What's that?
You probably know it as drinking too much shandy (that's lager-top for anyone South of Watford)
What are the symptoms?
Difficulty walking in a straight line or remaining upright without the assistance of friends / walls / the police, unexplainable desire to eat doner kebabs, sudden loss of funds, exponential increase in sociability and perceived attractiveness of the opposite or same sex
What are the treatment options?
Abstinence and regular chapel attendance was often promoted at the turn of the Century, however this has fallen by the wayside nowadays (much like a fresher on Otley Road on a Friday night)
Can you give me any serious advice?
Yes, take a look at our Alcohol page
