Leeds Student Medical Practice is designed and operated to suit the needs of students studying in higher education and living in Leeds. We offer a wide range of services including a dedicated 3 bed sick bay facility during University term-time

SURGERY FACILITIES
We have car parking for patients to use whilst they are attending the practice. An enforcement company monitors the car park, and will apply penalties to anyone parking without authority. Bicycle racks are next to the car park. There is a pram park in the Reception lobby. There is wheelchair access to all rooms, and suitable toilet facilities on all floors. We have a lift to give access to upper floors. Our day resting facility has full facilities for disabled patients. There is a hearing-aid induction loop in reception. If you require confidential advice or information from Reception there is a private room adjacent

DAY RESTING FACILITY
The Practice has a day resting facility with beds for patients who need to be monitored whilst awaiting hospital admission, or until they are well enough to travel home. The day resting facility is available during surgery opening hours in University of Leeds terms and is available to all students of the University of Leeds

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS
If one of our doctors has arranged a repeat prescription for you, and the review date has not expired, then you may hand in or post your request (enclosing a stamped addressed envelope) to Reception. Prescriptions can be collected one full working day after request. Sorry, we do not take prescription requests by telephone. Repeat prescriptions can be requested on-line using our EMIS Access web service

TEST RESULTS
These are available to you in person at Reception. They will not be released to anyone else. Results can be given over the telephone by prior arrangement with a doctor. If telephoning for a result please do so between 2pm and 4.30pm

WHO CAN REGISTER AT THE PRACTICE?
To register you should be; a University student, (or their partner or child), AND live in University Accommodation in Leeds OR private accommodation in postal areas LS1 to LS7 or LS16 South of the Ring Road

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
International students will qualify for free NHS treatment if they are on a full-time University course longer than 6 months

Students on courses shorter than 6 months but from countries covered by a Reciprocal Healthcare Agreement will qualify for free NHS treatment

Students on courses shorter than 6 months from countries not covered by a Reciprocal Healthcare Agreement will be seen as private patients and a fee will be charged

All International patients, regardless of study or the length of stay in the UK are entitled to free emergency hospital treatment

We have access to translation services but it is helpful during consultations with the doctor or nurse, if you can bring someone to translate for you if you are not fluent in English

NON-NHS FEES
Certain services are not included on the National Health Service. These include private medical examinations, private sick notes, letters to third parties, tests requested for employment and travel purposes, doctor's signatures on official documents, and some vaccinations. Please check when you hand such requests to us whether a fee will be payable. A full list of private fees is available at Reception or see our Fees Page

COMPLAINTS, SUGGESTIONS & PATIENT'S RESPONSIBILITIES
If you have any comments, suggestions, or complaints about any aspects of the way we work, the Practice Manager will be happy to discuss them. We have a formal complaint procedure in line with national guidelines

Our aim is to treat you with respect, care, and courtesy, we ask that you do the same. Please be on time for appointments, and let us know if you cannot attend a booked appointment. Patients who are abusive or violent will be removed from our list and NHS Leeds (Primary Care Trust) will make alternative arrangements for their healthcare

CONFIDENTIALITY
All information you give to anyone in this Practice is considered to be confidential. Where personal data is stored electronically we adhere to the requirements of the Data Protection Act. In the course of everyday patient care and administration your data may be shared (in confidence) with specific NHS organisations, for more detail see our Data Protection Notice in the surgery, or on our Advice Page. All employees have access to patient data in relation to their role, and have signed a confidentiality agreement. CHANGE OF ADDRESS
It is important that you inform us promptly if you move to a new address, or change your telephone number. Likewise, please inform any hospital if you are under their care, or awaiting an appointment. You can notify us using our Address page if you have changed your address, mobile or home telephone number

TRAVEL CLINIC
Providing comprehensive travel advice and immunisations (including Yellow Fever and Rabies). Remember to plan well in advance of your travels, as some immunisation programmes need to be started several months before leaving this country. Don't forget to look at the Travel Page. There are charges for some vaccinations, but most are free to registered patients (contact Reception for current fees or see our Fees page). Before making an appointment for travel vaccinations you need to complete an Overseas Traveller form which can be downloaded from our Travel Page

SPORTS INJURY CLINIC
We have a qualified sports injury trained doctor who runs a regular clinic by appointment. We also provide in-house physiotherapy treatment, if you have been referred by one of our doctors

CERVICAL SMEAR TEST CLINIC
Our Practice Nurses run regular smear test clinics. Alternatively a smear test appointment can be booked with any of the doctors. Please specify at reception when making your appointment. Please note that routine smears are no longer required for patients under 25, unless there has been previous abnormal results

MINOR SURGERY CLINIC
A variety of minor surgical procedures including the treatment of warts may be undertaken in the Practice after consultation with one of the doctors

DIABETES CLINIC

MATERNITY SERVICES CLINIC
We offer full antenatal care for pregnant women and recommend that you consult with a doctor as early in your pregnancy as possible, so that arrangements can be put in place in good time. If you are thinking about starting a family we can provide preconception advice on issues such as Folic acid

ASTHMA CLINIC
This clinic runs twice a week during term-time. Patients are seen by a trained asthma nurse (and a doctor where necessary). The clinic aims to educate and improve asthma control and is open to all asthmatics. Please book through reception and bring all inhalers, diaries etc. to your appointment

CHILD HEALTH SURVEILLANCE
Full child health surveillance including regular developmental checks and immunisations is available at the practice for children under the age of 5 years

MENTAL HEALTH
All the doctors have experience dealing with mental health issues, both general and more specific to the University population. In addition clinics are run by Primary Care Mental Health Workers who are attached to the practice. If you're trying to cope with lots of worry, low mood, lack of confidence, or feelings of panic or loss, they may be able to help you. They can offer up to six sessions of confidential and independent support, advice and information to help you understand your difficulties and begin to work on some solutions. You can ask one of our GPs or Nurses for a referral to see one of them

CONTRACEPTION AND SEXUALITY
During consultations with the nurses or doctors patients may discuss all aspects of sexual health, HIV, Hepatitis, STDs, contraception, health screening (cervical smears, breast checks and testicular examination), and sexuality. All consultations follow the strictest rules of medical confidentiality
