The Computer Based Learning Unit has the general research aim of using computer based technology to examine processes of cognition, decision-making and problem-solving, and hence to support innovative teaching and learning applications.

The Centre has well-established teaching and research interests in several fields, including: decision-making and problem-solving development and support; discourse and dialogue; instructional design, authoring and evaluation; intelligent learning technologies; representation and presentation of complex information; and vision, cognition and learning. The Unit is involved in a number of research and development projects with other departments in the University. It is using distance learning (WebCT) in its teaching.
