Faculty of Medicine and Health

Leeds University Africa Health Collaboration

The Faculty’s International Strategy includes a commitment to develop a long-term base in a low-middle income country for health focused research and education. This commitment has been actively pursued and a lead partner, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), identified. This partnership (originally titled ‘FMH International Platform’) is now known as Leeds University Africa Health Collaboration.

Initially the work of Leeds University Africa Health Collaboration (LUAHC) will focus on Tanzania. A series of visits have taken place to develop relationships with IITA and other potential partners. Research proposals involving these partners are currently being developed.

Relationships in Tanzania have been greatly facilitated by the presence of a group of enthusiastic and committed Alumni. This support was recognised when the Dean of Faculty, Professor Peter McWilliam hosted a reception for Alumni in Dar-es-Salaam. The venue was the garden of the residence of the British Council Tanzania Director and the evening was a successful mix of renewing old acquaintances, networking and relaxation.
