The Application Process: UCAS Application

Applicants must apply via UCAS by 15th October (see how to apply). Formal responsibility for the acknowledgement of applications and communication of results rests with UCAS. The School will however, acknowledge individual applications.

The assessment of UCAS forms is done independently by two senior medical staff using explicit criteria. On the basis of the assessment of the UCAS form, candidates can either be rejected, or called for interview.

The admissions office begins to receive applications in late October for entry the following year and continues to receive forms for several months. Because of the number of UCAS forms the office deals with each year (around 2,800), it does take time for the selectors to complete the admissions process. Candidates therefore should not be concerned if they do not hear from the Medical School for sometime, especially as the closing date for decisions to be given to UCAS is not until the end of March.

The volume of applications is such that it is not possible for the admissions office to give any indication as to the outcome of individual applications prior to receiving notification via UCAS.
