Internal applicants
All Leeds medical/dental students wishing to intercalate at Leeds University must complete the Application Form (below), indicating a first second choice and third choice. The deadline for applications is by midnight on the 17th February 2013.
Application to intercalated programmes is a competitive process based on the student profile both academic and non academic. The number of places available on each course differs yearly and students are not guaranteed a place. It is expected that the majority of students will be given one of their specified choices. If demand for particular programme exceeds the places available a clearing exercise will be initiated for unallocated students who wish to obtain a place on another degree programme. It is anticipated that students will be notified of their allocated choice in the week commencing 25 March 2013.
A maximum of 150 Leeds medical students will be allowed to intercalate in 2013-2014 after Year 3 (this includes those students intercalating outside Leeds) of the Leeds MBChB program; there is no limit to intercalation numbers following Years 2 or 4 MBChB
Confirmation of acceptance on to programmes will be notified to students in week commencing 25 March 2013.

Important points to note:
Some programmes require a 500 word statement on why you wish to study the subject, in addition to the application form. Please check whether this is required on each programmes’ web page.
There are restricted places on some courses delivered by the Faculty of Biological Sciences. Anatomy can admit a maximum number of 21 students per year. It is anticipated that Neuroscience, Pharmacology and Physiology will take a combined total of 12 students and Sports Science 5 students. It is anticipated that degree programmes in Biochemistry and Microbiology in relation to Medicine will take a combined total of 10 students.
External Applicants – applications from students from other medical schools
Applications are welcome from students from other medical schools and are considered in addition to those from Leeds Medical students. Students from other medical schools are strongly encouraged to meet the deadline for applications which is by midnight on the 17th February 2013 so that the merits of all applications can be considered together and external students have the best chance of securing an offer.
Undergraduate programmes
Medical students from other universities may apply for entry be to intercalated undergraduate (BSc/BA) programmes of study offered at Leeds; please review individual course entry requirements.

Applications should be made on a University of Leeds Direct Entry form. (You may encounter browser compatibility issues if using Internet Explorer 9. If so then please right-click on the link and save a local copy of the form or try an alternative browser.

Please send an email to the administrative contact for the programme, copying in intercalate@leeds.ac.uk, to let them know that you have submitted an application to the University.

Medical students from other universities may apply for entry to postgraduate (MSc/MA/MPH/MRes) intercalated programmes of study offered at Leeds following Year 3 of their Medicine course; please review individual course entry requirements.

Intercalating outside Leeds
Leeds medical students may be permitted to intercalate at another university to study a recognised intercalated degree. Any student contemplating this option should make enquiries with the University/Medical School where the degree is offered and should also contact intercalate@leeds.ac.uk to discuss approval for temporary withdrawal from the University for the year of study.
